Walking Group Program

The GSWW Walking Groups plan walks each month on Saturdays and Mondays and are always happy to welcome new members. As a member, you are welcome to participate in each organised walk or opt-in or out to suit your own interests and commitments.

This is a great opportunity to be part of a group that collectively has a wide range of knowledge of the diverse history, terrain, flora and fauna of this relatively undiscovered area of Victoria.

The GSWW Walking Group is now on Facebook

Walkers Note: If you feel a walk is too long for you we can perhaps offer a pick-up service, as many of our walks have car access at various points.

Please make inquiries with the contact person for the day. This way you can still enjoy the company of our walking group and accomplish most of the day’s activities.

Additional Information.

NB Unless otherwise stated, all walks leave the Portland Tourist Information Centre, Lee Breakwater Road, Portland.

Please register with the contact person prior to the walk as indicated, so transport arrangements can be made.

We would like to encourage all walkers to become financial members and  membership forms are available from the contact person on the day of the walk.

Because of the cost of insurance for our walkers, we now have a nominal charge of $3.00 per person, per walk which helps off-set insurance costs.

Suggested Equipment for Day Walks

Morning tea, nibbles and lunch, water bottle (min 1 litre), day pack, waterproof jacket, sun hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, beanie, comfortable and broken-in footwear, change of clothes for the return trip (left in the car) if conditions are likely to be wet.

Additionally, on Twilight Walks, meals will be at designated venues at own expense and, as walks commence after lunch, something to nibble on, fruit, nuts or the like, would be advisable.

Please refer to the Walkers Awareness Sheet which contains other useful information for walkers. Download a Walkers Awareness Sheet.
